Grade 5 Basketball Jamboree: A Slam Dunk Success!

Excitement was high as students, teachers, and volunteers came together for the second annual Grade 5 Basketball Jamboree on April 11. With all nine in-town elementary schools participating and more than 100 young athletes hitting the court, the event was a true celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and growing passion for basketball.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen remarkable progress in skill level and enthusiasm for the sport as students transition into grade 6. This year’s Jamboree was no exception, showcasing the dedication of both players and those who made the event possible.
Teachers poured countless hours into coaching, ensuring students were well-prepared for the big day. Their commitment was matched by the grade 8 Southgate leadership class, who played a key role in organizing the event. The Timberline boys’ basketball team stepped up to referee each game and run skill competitions, adding energy and expertise to the festivities.
The success of the event was made possible by the unwavering support of Southgate’s teachers and staff, whose flexibility and involvement ensured everything ran smoothly. A special shout-out goes to Stephanie Stromquist, Del-Rae Young, and Reid Wharton for their extra efforts in setup and cleanup, and of course, to organizer Leah Kay for bringing it all together.
The Grade 5 Basketball Jamboree is more than just a tournament—it’s an opportunity for students to grow, connect, and ignite a lifelong love for the game. We can’t wait to see how these young athletes continue to shine on the court in the years ahead!
